The application of flame retardant is expanding year by year
2020-09-29 10:23:31

With the progress of science and technology and the improvement of living standards, polymer materials, especially synthetic polymers, such as plastics and rubber, are playing a more and more important role in people's life, and their applications are expanding year by year. However, most of the organic polymer materials have different degrees of flammability in the air. In order to realize their application in military, aerospace, transportation, power and civil industries, flame retardant modification of them has become a new topic. The ideal method of flame retardant modification of plastics is to improve the fire resistance of plastics by adding flame retardant or flame retardant masterbatch.

Flame retardant

Flame retardant masterbatch (bromine / halogenated) is also known as flame retardant masterbatch, which is one of the flame retardant products in plastics and rubber resins. Flame retardant masterbatch is a kind of granular product which is prepared by mixing, extruding and granulating by twin-screw or three-screw extruder through organic combination, modification and synergistic effect of various flame retardant components. Different from flame retardant, the flame retardant masterbatch has many advantages, such as easy to add in the resin, clean and sanitary, high flame retardant efficiency, small amount of addition, little influence on the mechanical properties of the resin, and it is not easy to have bad phenomena such as delamination, pattern and precipitation after addition, saving labor, material cost and time. Generally speaking, the dispersion, fluidity, compatibility with resin, thermal stability and weather resistance of flame retardant masterbatch in resin are much better than those of common flame retardant. In addition, the flame retardant efficiency and efficiency (cost performance ratio) of flame retardant masterbatch with proper formulation are much better than those of common flame retardant. Therefore, flame retardant masterbatch has become one of the choices of flame retardant plastic products to meet the fire requirements, and become an effective substitute of flame retardant powder.

The flame retardancy of plastic powder polymer is very poor, which is limited in many fields. The flame retardant powder coating has the functions of flame retardant, flame retardant and heat insulation. With the rapid development of industry, the requirement of flame retardant is more and more urgent. The substances that can play the role of flame retardant are mainly the N group and halogen group elements in the periodic table of elements. The commonly used compounds are n, P, Cl, Br, Mg, Al and other elements. Economic flame retardant products such as magnesium hydroxide and other compounds, similar to this kind of products, we call them flame retardants.

Some people will misunderstand the definition of flame retardant and think that the powder can't burn after adding flame retardant. However, powder coatings, like most polymer materials, are combustible. Adding flame retardants can only slow down or delay combustion, or automatically extinguish after combustion. In the powder coating industry, there are few standards for this kind of products. The common practice is to take the material from the extruder for direct combustion, determine its oxygen index, evaluate according to gb2406-1993, and determine the fire resistance performance according to GB 14907-2002. Oxygen index (OI) refers to the low oxygen concentration required for flaming combustion of materials in oxygen nitrogen mixture under specified conditions. It is expressed by the volume percentage of oxygen. High oxygen index indicates that the material is not easy to burn, and low oxygen index indicates that the material is easy to burn. Generally speaking, oxygen index < 22 belongs to flammable material, oxygen index between 22 and 27 belongs to combustible material, and oxygen index > 27 belongs to refractory material.
